- A unique collection from the museum’s storage
Next spring the Zeeuws Museum will undertake a major reinstallation of its collections from the department of Art and History. In preparation, we are putting our collection under a magnifying glass. This includes the collection of the Kunstmuseum (Art Museum) that was formerly housed in the garden of the Schuttershof in Middelburg from the end of the nineteenth century. The works were acquired with the aim of building a collection of contemporary art for the province. When the museum closed in 1961 because of the poor condition of the building and financial problems, the collection was transferred to the Zeeuws Museum.

From Zadkine to Vaarzon Morel
A broad selection from the collection of the former Kunstmuseum is now on display on the second floor of the Zeeuws Museum. Lovers of painting will be delighted by the diverse works on show in two galleries: from Zadkine to Vaarzon Morel, alongside lesser-known pearls. In addition to paintings, there is also glasswork by Copier and several sculptures. The colourful presentation prioritises works that have not been out of storage for a long while. A joyous and multifaceted exhibition: the ideal antidote to a dark winter’s day!
